GRADE 3, 4 & 5 – RECORDERS FOR MUSIC

Beginning April 9, all grade 3, 4 and 5 students will need to bring a quality recorder to school for music classes. The recorders will remain at school until June. To make things easier we are providing the opportunity to order recorders through the school.

Quality, brand name Handel recorders can be ordered online through PowerSchool from March 21 to April 19 (or while quantities last) for $6.00. They will be delivered right to your child at the school. https://powerschool.blackgold.ca/public/home.html

If you prefer to purchase on your own, we recommend visiting Long & McQuade (9219 28 Ave, Edmonton).

*Please note, although recorders are available at the dollar stores, the quality is poor and can lead to frustration for the budding musicians when they are playing and it doesn’t work or sound as well as it could. We accept all recorders but wanted to provide this information.

We will begin using the recorders on April 9th.

Donations

For over a year, the Champs Vallée Fundraising Society has been designing, fundraising and planning for the playground at our new school. Most of you probably saw the design when you were at the Open House a few weeks ago. The exciting news is that the playground equipment is ordered and at the end of April we are planning to build the playground at Champs Vallée!

We need your help!

While we have purchased the playground equipment, we are still short of our fundraising goal. We are reaching out to the ÉCVS community for cash and material donations, as well as volunteers to help install the playground.

Personal Cash Donations

With funding from the Government of Alberta and donations, we have raised over 80% of the funds needed to complete the playground. Black Gold Schools has provided a loan for the rest to allow us to build the playground right away and give the kids a great space to play. Without this funding, we would not have a playground this year, but it does leave us with a loan that we need to repay.

If you are interested in donating cash to our playground, consider using Powerschool or writing a check and dropping it off at the school. Any donation amount is appreciated! Donations over $100 will be acknowledged on a donor sign that will be permanently installed at the playground.

Corporate Cash Donations

Do you know someone who can support our playground through a company or business? We are also looking for corporate sponsorship for cash donations, as well as construction material donations. For cash donations, please contact the Fundraising Society for more information on corporate sponsorship – we will help with contacting them and providing the information they will be interested in. Any corporate sponsorship will be acknowledged on our donor sign.

Construction Material Donations

We have ordered the playground equipment, but are looking for donations of certain construction materials rather than spend our fundraising dollars. If you or someone you know can help, we are looking for donations of:

1) Redi-mix concrete for the playground footings

2) 6”x6” pressure treated lumber for the playground curbing

3) Bobcat services for drilling post holes

4) Bobcat services for installing the wood fiber surfacing

If you can help us with any of these items in any amount, please contact us for the details.

Volunteer Labour

We will be installing the playground ourselves! This not only saves us a lot on installation costs, but will also bring our new ECVS community of parents together. The playground supplier will be supervising our team of volunteers over 4 days at the end of April. We need to provide 15-20 volunteers at all times during the installation. Please consider volunteering when you can – even if it’s only a few hours. No special skills are needed. Please watch for the Google Form that will be sent out closer to the install date to let us know when you can help out.

Sponsorship

The Champs Vallée Fundraising Society is reaching out to the community and businesses for donations
to support the development of the Champs Vallée School playground. Our goal is to raise $75,000. The
construction of the playground will begin either late April or early May of this year.
The playground will meet the size, and requirements of both elementary and junior high students,
contain accessibility features for a variety of abilities, and will be a much needed addition to the community.

As a Society, we believe in encouraging and fostering strong foundations of health and wellbeing and
supporting healthy communities. The playground at École Champs Vallée School will provide
opportunities for the children in the school, and the community to develop a healthy lifestyle.

and social media posts, and any independent news coverage we can access.
