Voyageurs Update: October 3rd, 2025

Job Action Update

As you may be aware, there is the likelihood of a teacher strike beginning Monday, October 6. If this occurs, students will not be attending school.

We want to share some information that may provide clarity and reassurance.

The Black Gold School Division website has a Labour Action Update page, that is kept up to date. The informative FAQ section is a good resource. One question you may be wondering about is:

“Are teachers expected to provide workbooks or teaching resources to send home with students?”

No. Teachers’ obligations pause during a strike and resume once the strike has ended.

We know families want to support their children’s learning during this time. However, while the strike is in effect, teachers are not able to provide schoolwork, either during or in advance. The withdrawal of services includes instructional duties, such as preparing and distributing coursework.

What you can do is encourage your child to stay engaged in learning through natural, everyday activities:

  • Reading together or independently
  • Practicing math facts
  • Playing educational games
  • Exploring personal interests and hobbies
  • Using the many excellent resources available at your local library or online from the school library.

You may notice activity in and around the building or vehicles in the parking lot. Although the building is not open to the public, support staff will be reporting to work during the strike and evening user groups will continue to have bookings.

School sport schedules will be re-evaluated when the job action ends and we will offer prorated refunds for the fees depending on the decision made at that time.

We remain hopeful that this disruption is short and our education system will emerge stronger from this time. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and ongoing commitment to your child’s well-being and learning. We look forward to reconnecting with students and families soon, as partners in Public Education.
