Voyageurs News – September 2nd
WELCOME / BIENVENUE
We were happy to see so many students and families at our “Staff Meet and Greet” on August 30th. We look forward to welcoming students again on Tuesday, September 4th for the first day of school.
Kindergarten Staggered Entry runs from September 4th to 6th.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
Our morning bell will be ringing at 08:30 and class instruction starts at 08:35. Students will be using the following doors. We always have staff supervising the school grounds and buses before school starting at 08:20 and at the end of the day until at least 15:25.
The first day of school is always the busiest day of the school year for parking and drop-off. If you are driving, please allow extra time. The drive-thru lane is for drop offs and not for parking. The visitor parking stalls adjacent to the drive-thru are usually reserved for ECS drop-off, but can be used by all on the first day of school. Please do not park in the bus lane, staff parking lot, or at neighbouring businesses. Doors will be open at 8:25 to allow students to enter and get ready for the first day.
Parents and guardians are asked to sign-in at the office when visiting the school. The interior main entrance doors will be locked, but the office is accessible from the main entrance. For the first day of school, we will open the interior doors and parents are welcome to help their child to class without signing-in.
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be on Monday, September 17th 2018 at 7:30 pm in the Learning Commons. All parents are welcome to attend.
Sunday, October 21, 2018
Tickets will be available for purchase soon on PowerSchool.
We will remain a “closed campus” for students. Students needing to leave during the day or at noon will continue to require a parent or guardian to sign them out at the office. Exceptions can be made for students who routinely go home for lunch. Students will not be permitted to leave campus independently during school hours to go to the neighbouring businesses.
All students who are at school during the lunch time will eat their lunch in class with their homeroom teacher. Microwaves are not available at this time.
There is some minor construction still underway by the building contractors that will happen when students aren’t in the building. The landscaping and sod will be completed soon. We ask that our school community please use the sidewalks and walkways to avoid the fresh turf and allow the sod to take root.
Bus passes will be handed out on the first day of school and we will assist students getting on the bus at the end of the day. We will have pylons with bus numbers, that the students line up behind, matching their bus passes.
Questions regarding transportation and busing can be answered by contacting the BGRD Transportation Department.
Absences can be reported using this form or by calling the school. Please do not email teachers or office staff as your primary form of reporting an absence.
An unexcused absence from school will automatically generate a phone call, text message, and email to parents using your PowerSchool information. These settings can be adjusted in the parent portal of PowerSchool. https://ecvs.blackgold.ca/parents/absence-reporting-form/
