    Bus Cancellations and Inclement Weather

All Black Gold buses are cancelled again for Tuesday, February 9th.  On days when all buses are cancelled, students can be dropped-off and picked-up in the bus lane.  We appreciate your patience as the school-zone is very busy on these days.

With the extreme cold this week, it looks like all breaks will be indoors.  Children should always come to school dressed as if they will be going outside.

    Upcoming Events and School Closures

February 12th – Red Day – Students and staff are encouraged to wear red.

February 15th – Family Day Holiday (No school for all students and staff)

    February 24th- Pink Shirt Day

    Valentine’s Day

Classes are encouraged to share kindness and positive messages with classmates using shared Google Slides or other digital platforms.

Homeroom teachers will communicate with parents on the format of any Valentine’s Day activities.

Following AHS COVID-19 guidelines, shared food should not be consumed at school.

We are not encouraging parents to send treats to school to share on Valentine’s Day, but students may bring treats that are factory packaged provided that they are not consumed at school and respect any food allergies in the classroom.  We will let students know that any treats or Valentine’s received must be brought home for their parents to clean, quarantine, or limit as they see fit.  Please reinforce this message with your child closer to Valentine’s Day.

AHS CYF Caregiver Education February Newsletter

The AHS Children, Youth, and Families – Addiction and Mental Health Caregiver Education Team is proud to offer free mental health programming for parents and caregivers of children and youth through our partnership with the Mental Health Foundation. In response to the global pandemic, our programming continues to be offered virtually at this time.

These 90 minute online sessions are intended to provide parents, caregivers, teachers, and community members with introductory information regarding mental health challenges that can affect children/youth. Unless specified, sessions are for an adult audience.

These 60 minute informational webinars are for parents/caregivers who are looking to strengthen their child’s/adolescent’s ability to thrive through life’s challenges and discover strategies that can help build resiliency. We are also offering select Caregiver Education Sessions as part of these Lunch & Learn sessions.

In February, we are continuing with our parenting series, S.E.E.D.S – Support, Education, and Engagement Drop-In Sessions. These are weekly, 90 minute, drop-in, interactive and educational workshops. They are designed to help parents/caregivers learn foundational parenting strategies that cultivate healthy relationships, strong child development, and resilient families.  Participants can register for one session or join us for the series.
